Selling Your Home in the Fall

Selling your home in the fall can come with its own unique perks and challenges. There can be more outdoor work that needs to be done, but there is also lots of fun decor that can be used to spice up your space and make your home look its best. Taking some extra steps during the fall season to get your home ready for selling will help set your home apart from the competition.

Yard Work

The change in weather invites the need for constant yard work. Staying on top of maintaining your yard will help your home’s curb appeal and leave a lasting first impression on potential buyers. This includes raking leaves frequently and attending to any summer plants and flowers that are no longer blooming and thriving. Bringing fall flowers into your garden will help set the tone of the season before people even enter your home.

Bringing Fall Indoors

If the outside of your home is ready for the fall season, so should the inside. Using fall colours and decor pieces in your indoor spaces when staging are great for reflecting the cozy vibes of autumn. Staging with these pieces is very easy and can help your home look cohesive inside and out. Chunkier throw blankets, earthier tones, and muted decor pieces can all help transform your space into a beautiful fall oasis that buyers will love

Comfortable Temperatures

Since the fall weather can be unpredictable, it is important to keep your home at a comfortable temperature for open houses and showings. Doing your regular seasonal maintenance on your furnace and/or fireplace makes sure that there are no surprises and that potential buyers and other sales representatives are comfortable when touring your home.

Keep it Bright

The change in seasons brings the change in sunlight. You want to take advantage of the sunlight as long as you can when selling your home in the fall, so keep your curtains open and make sure your windows are clean on the inside and outside. If you have outdoor lighting of any kind, turning it on will increase the outer appearance of your home as well, particularly for evening showings.

Minimize Spooky Decor

Although Halloween is a crowd favourite, you don’t want to scare away buyers! You want to try and neutralize your spooky decor when potential buyers are looking at your home. This can mean putting away some decor pieces during showings or open houses or choosing more muted items like pumpkins and gourds.
